JB’s dining scene punches well above its size. We started at Tosca, the rooftop Italian trattoria atop DoubleTree by Hilton rustic, wood-fired Italian cooking with sweeping views over the Straits of Johor.

For something bolder, Solene, perched atop SKS Tower in Bukit Senyum, delivered one of the trip's standout meals a towering tomahawk carved tableside against a backdrop of the city skyline, in a room dressed in bronze and crystal on the 26th floor. 

And no visit to Johor Bahru is complete without an omakase the city has quietly become a destination for it, with chefs flying in seasonal catches for an ultra-premium, seat-at-the-counter experience that rivals anything found in Singapore or Tokyo, at a fraction of the price.

Classy, considered, and quietly conservative, in keeping with the occasion's royal setting. Women arrived immaculately turned out in designer wear, tailored and polished rather than flashy, with jewellery collections chosen to complement rather than compete with the grandeur of the grounds. Cocktail rings, diamond drop earrings and Her Highness Che' Puan Khaleeda personally choosing to wear a K’DOR Emerald & Diamond necklace on the final day.

The men were, without exception, beautifully dressed in effortless, textured tailoring. Zegna were also present, fittingly so, as it's said to be a personal favourite of the Prince himself, it was a masterclass in dressing for occasion without ever overdressing.
