The K’DOR service plan recommends pieces should be serviced every 4 months to ensure optimal condition and longevity. This quarterly service is complimentary and includes an assessment and clean of individual pieces by our artisans. Once a year, pieces require a little extra care by receiving a polish. This service is a thorough clean and where our artisan’s rhodium dip the piece to restore its lustre and keep it looking as radiant as the day you received it.
Both services allow our artisans to check the gemstones, claws, and clasps, but also to identify any current and prevent future damage by maintaining your piece with the highest level of care.
If a K’DOR creation is maintained and serviced in accordance with the K’DOR Service Plan, we provide complimentary repairs.
- Put jewellery on last, take off first: Apply all cosmetics, perfumes, hairsprays, and lotions before putting on your jewellery to avoid chemical contact that can dull the finish or damage organic gems like pearls and opals.
- Remove all jewellery before swimming (chlorine and salt water are especially damaging), exercising, gardening, cleaning, or sleeping. Physical activity can cause dents, scratches, or loosen settings.
- Keep it dry: Avoid exposing your jewellery to humidity or moisture, and avoid storing in the bathroom.
Gentle, regular cleaning prevents buildup of oils, dirt, and product residue.
General Method (for most gold and diamonds)
- Soak jewellery in warm water with a few drops of mild soap for 15-30 minutes.
- Brush gently using a soft toothbrush and gently scrub around the settings and details.
- Rinse thoroughly and pat dry with a lint-free microfibre cloth
Delicate Gems
- Organic Gems (Pearls, Opals, Mother-of-Pearl): These porous gems should not be soaked or exposed to commercial cleaners. Simply wipe them clean with a soft, damp cloth after wearing.
- Delicate gemstones, including emeralds and tanzanites, require particular care. Avoid ultrasonic or steam cleaning, as the heat and vibration can compromise their natural internal structures.
Storage
Thoughtful storage is key to keeping your pieces protected from scratches, tangles, and damage.
- Store Separately: Use your K’DOR box or a fabric-lined jewellery box with compartments or soft pouches for each piece to prevent contact with other items.
- Cool & Dry: Keep your jewellery boxes in a cool, dry location, away from direct sunlight.
